When Pigs Fly, 2024

Ink on Bristol Paper, 17 in x 14 in

This piece is the third in a five part series of ink drawings exploring the themes of Black joy, justice, and radical leisure. This series was inspired by the common practice of mailing postcards of lynchings casually across the country with the goal of flipping the apathy and violence against Black American bodies back onto our violent oppressors.

As the central piece in the series, this piece is intended to be the most visually straightforward with little explanation needed. This is kind of a resting point in the series like a break in shootout for reloading before re-engaging. I aim to re-frame our reality from one where we are being hung in trees to one where we are climbing them for both leisure and justice.
